WOW!

What a day we had! We fed the animals and packed a picnic lunch. We were set to go and the phone rang. Bridget's goat was kidding. Since we really couldn't change our Seaport plans, I gave her names and numbers of experienced goat people and gave her Sam's cell phone number. We loaded up the van and off we went like a herd of turtles!

Things progressed at Bridget's, so I talked her through the delivery from Routes 395 and 32. Thankfully it was a quick, normal sized, single buckling. They have named him Riley.

We had such a beautiful day at the Seaport. Even though it is vacation week there were very few people there. We visited several of the exhibits that we had not visited in previous trips and we took in a show at the Planetarium. Because of the lack of tourists the Seaport employees were quite chatty and we were able to learn a lot of things and ask a lot of questions.

And we actually did a lot of homeschool type work. There were exhibits about navigation that required map skills and math. The planetarium was obviously school-like. There was a room where different ways of artistically depicting the ocean were taught and then the kids could create their own art. Exhibits detailing the history of the US Navy were full of information about historical events in United States history. It was very cool when the girls were able to mesh our visits to Fort Trumbull and the Nautilus to what they were learning at the Seaport! And now they want to go back to Fort Trumbull and Fort Griswold...

We got home around 3:30 and the girls took care of the animals while Sam and I went up to Bridget's to reassure her about her goats. I then drove the girls to my parent's house for a sleepover while Sam prepped our house for potential 4H'ers (none of which showed up).

Today I have a cabinet, that Sam built out of some leftover MDF, to paint. I will be doing a MAJOR cleaning (grabage bag style) in the schoolroom and the younger girls' bedroom. I think all of the girls inherited Sam's "pack rat" gene! Good thing Sam has a dump run planned for Saturday! We have a scheduled record book workshop for noonish. We'll see if any 4H'ers show up...

I wish I'd realized noone was going to show up last night....we purposely didn't come over because we could come during the day today, and didn't want to make it too busy for you if others came last night who wouldn't be able to do it during the day hours. Anyway...you can count on us for today's workshop!
