Pajama Party

We combined our two 4-H clubs (Fabric, Flowers, & Food with Great Goats & More) to create a community service project. The project was to collect pajamas to donate to the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut. When Hannah contacted the Women's Center they suggested that someone from the center come and speak to the 4-H clubs about what the center does.

So we set a date for our "Pajama Party". Abby developed the idea to have other 4-H clubs create and donate themed baskets which could be raffled off on that night, with all the money raised from tickets being donated to the center. She created a flyer and distributed to the 4-H clubs and also made some contacts with other groups like 4-H Teen Ambassadors and the 4-H Camp Foundation to solicit donations.

The response was wonderful! We had sixteen baskets to raffle off, including a week at the New London County 4-H Camp! Several organizations made monetary donations as well. Teen Ambassadors donated all the proceeds from their Magic Show event!

Another member of Great Goats has a community service project of making cards for the Make a Child Smile Foundation. She set up a table at our party and guests were encouraged to create cards for children who are chronically ill. I didn't get a total on how many cards were made, but the table was always busy!

In all 35 pajamas were donated with 3 fleece blankets and $366.00 in donations! While this fell short of the goal the girls had set of 50 pajamas and $400.00, I think it was an awesome turnout with over 50 people in attendance.

The suggestion has been made that we create a similar event for a food drive in February... there is no rest for the weary...
