In Times of Fear and Doubt

Fear and doubt are things I have struggled with for the last year or so. It sneaks upon me at the times when I am really not prepared or feeling particularly strong. For some reason driving alone in the car seems to be one of the times when I can be overwhlemed with fearful thoughts, worries or doubts. So I am collecting scripture to memorize for those times; verses that will (hopefully!) come to mind quickly and help me rein in my thoughts and emotions. 

Mark 9:24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Exodus 14:13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.

Deuteronomy 20:1 When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.

Mark 4:40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” 

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

2 Chronicles 20:15 He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Isaiah 7:9 If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.’”

Matthew 8:26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”

Psalm 121

 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—

    where does my help come from?

 My help comes from the Lord,

    the Maker of heaven and earth.

 He will not let your foot slip—

    he who watches over you will not slumber;

 indeed, he who watches over Israel

    will neither slumber nor sleep.

 The Lord watches over you—

    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;

 the sun will not harm you by day,

    nor the moon by night.

 The Lord will keep you from all harm—

    he will watch over your life;

 the Lord will watch over your coming and going

    both now and forevermore.
