I have discovered a new weight loss program! It involves contracting a very nasty stomach bug, complete with stomach cramps that rival childbirth pains. The inability to put ANYTHING in your stomach in combination with the severe gastrointestinal distress, sets you on the road for severe dehydration.
When your husband comes home from work, he will take one look at you, discover you haven't eaten or drank anything in 48 hours, and he will threaten to put you over his shoulder and carry you fireman style to the car, unless you walk on your own to the car. I chose to walk.
At the hospital they will assess that no, it isn't food poisoning, merely viral. They will administer fluids, anti-nausea drugs and a painful shot which eventually stops the excruciating spasms occurring in your gut. After two hours you are re-hydrated to their liking and sent on your way, being told that this bug tends to last 3-4 days.
Well, Sunday was day three and I was able to swallow some water last night and keep it where it is supposed to be. This morning I am able to sit up, but still am quite dehydrated. I attempted a piece of toast without success, so I suppose I am not yet over it. I figure I have enough fat stores to survive another week at least...
This is my journal about my life as a wife, a mom, a grandma, a retired farmer, former foster parent, retired homeschooler, and current house parent. Join me on my journey.

Another One Down
Okay, so apparently Samantha's vomiting last week wasn't a food thing; it was a bug thing.
Sam and I left Hannah home in charge of Rachel and Samantha while we ran 5 miles down the road to pick up Abby and Nathalie. We arrived home just as Hannah was throwing up in the kitchen! She was fine when we left! Honest!
I cleaned the kitchen, floor, walls, cabinets, and refrigerator, while Hannah took a shower. Abby cleared off Hannah's bed, and Nathalie and Sam put Rachel and Samantha to bed. Hannah continued to throw up through the night, just like Samantha had six days ago. So we figure for the next 3-4 weeks, every 5-6 days, we'll have someone getting sick. Something to look forward to.

"THE BUG"
You know it has been a long two weeks of children with the stomach bug, when it is 2 AM and you can hear a child throwing up and your first thought is: "Please be an older child who has managed to get themselves to the toilet."
No such luck though. Six year old Samantha managed to get her bed, the floor of her room, the hall, the bathroom floor, the side of the toilet and trace amounts into the toilet. The good news: Hannah, Rachel and Samantha had cleaned their room last night and so I don't have a mountain of laundry, stuffed animals and school books to clean up!
Only one kid has managed to not be sick yet. Rachel will probably fall any day now though.
Looks like Hannah's birthday party will be pushed back, yet again. Poor kid, not only does her birthday have to be stuck in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, now she has to keep waiting for everyone to be healthy. The thought has crossed my mind though: My parents have already had the bug; we could have the party anyway... I wonder if Mom would go for it....?
