Crazy Day

Today is going to be crazy. Not that it makes it any different from any other day here. Just that today, I can just look at my calendar and know before the day begins that it will be crazy.

8AM 2 Kids on bus
1 van picked up by FFA to drive 14 FFA teens to airport.

8:30AM Start 3 girls on schoolwork.
Fold Laundry
Clean bathrooms since it was Samantha's job yesterday and well, she's not exactly great at the job yet and dysentery isn't in my schedule.

9AM Sam arrives home from work
I leave for grocery store, bank, post office, and wherever else.

11:30 Back home, unload car.
Check that girls are actually doing schoolwork.

Noon Lunch
Sam leaves for work

12:30 When van gets back take out 2 back seats.

2PM Drive Abby and 3 goats to friend's house. She is making a nativity scene Christmas card and wants to borrow some goats for it.

2:30 Put 2 back seats back in the van
Drive to Lebanon Community center to pick up 13 girl scouts and drive them to field trip.

5PM Drive home. Take 2 seats back out of van. Go and pick up Abby and goats.

Meetings and Driving

I survived my first girl scout meeting! It really wasn't bad at all. The kids are cute, loud and wild, but cute. There is one child who was definitely testing the boundaries, not like I haven't dealt with that before. Samantha was funny. She wasn't quite sure how to behave. There were times when I could tell she wanted to cut loose with her friends but would catch my eye and knew she really shouldn't. I am sure if I wasn't there she would have easily been one of the wild ones.

Today is Rachel's girl scout meeting. Yesterday was Hannah's girl scout meeting. Her leader graciously drove Hannah to and from the meeting so I could be home to get Rachel and Samantha off the bus without putting a bajillion miles on the van.

The van. Poor thing. It will be getting a workout in the next few weeks. On the 21st the FFA is using it to drive the kids to the airport in the morning. In the afternoon it'll be transporting girl scouts on a field trip. Then on the 25th the FFA kids will be picked up in it. Of course there are the regular trips to girl scout meetings, 4H meetings, library trips, and church meetings.

Summer Weather

The van was repaired yesterday. I love my mechanic! He replaced the rebuilt alternator that he put in on Monday with a brand new one and he didn't charge me a penny! I drove it home and there seems to be no problems.

I actually got several things accomplished yesterday. The mudroom door and trim are all stained. The stray cat's owner appeared to remove her cat. I washed all the winter coats etc. and hung them out to dry. I started to organize the mudroom and get things on the shelves. We condensed all of Hannah's older show chickens into one pen so that we can put the newer birds outside today.

I really want to uncover my sewing machine area today. It has had everything from the mudroom area piled on it while we worked on the mudroom. Abby and Nathalie are outgrowing clothing quicker than I can produce it. Pants I made for Abby for Christmas are now too short for her. Nathalie is a bit thicker than Abby so the pants, custom made for Abby, don't fit Nathalie unless I alter them. Which means unburying my sewing machine.

I also need to pull out the summer clothing as the weather forecast is calling for mid to upper 70's for this week. Chaos in the laundry room as everyone tries things on to determine who fits what and who needs what. I used to have a system, but since Abby and Nathalie are wearing nearly the same size, and Rachel and Samantha are almost the same size, my system doesn't work.

I am mentally preparing myself for a meeting tomorrow about Rachel. My level of frustration is very high. Every "expert" I contact says I have to have the school take certain steps before they can get involved. The school doesn't want to take those steps. Meanwhile, the kid struggles. I am beginning to think the school would just love for me to throw my hands up and say, "Fine! I'll homeschool her!" It would certainly remove any $$ burden from them. Seven weeks left in the school year. What are the chances that they will do anything?

Nothing Done

Ever have a day where you feel like you got nothing accomplished and yet, you are exhausted? Yesterday was that day.

First thing I dealt with was Samantha and her sore throat: Bed and no school.

Next, Abby's cat was chased up a tree on Sunday. Yesterday morning it was still up there despite Sam's assurances that you never see cat skeletons in trees. A stray male cat is in the yard harassing the other cat. It is quite friendly and healthy and I am hoping it will go back home. Unfortunately people see our yard, children and animals and think it is the perfect place to "dump" animals.

Rachel gets on the bus and Hannah is given instructions to try to tempt the cat out of the tree with food. Sam and I leave to take the van to the auto mechanic to figure out why we have gone through 3 batteries in 5 months.
Once there, we wait around until the mechanic tells us he needs to replace the alternator and the van won't be ready until the afternoon. So we swing by my mom's for a few minutes before heading back to Lebanon to pick up Rachel from school for her Doctor's appointment.

Rachel gets her chicken pox booster and does much better than last time; last time she kicked the nurse. The doctor informs me that she can't recommend any testing for Rachel until the school does a complete evaluation and refers it to her. Then she can order hearing testing, etc. She did order some preliminary bloodwork which can rule out certain things.

So we bring Rachel back to school after stopping for a treat for her at Burger King (BLECH!). We drive home to find the cat has come down from 75 feet up to about 60 feet up. Sam calls a friend who has a really tall ladder. Nathalie is ready to leave for girl scouts by then. Sam tells me the ladder will be arriving later in the evening. We drive Nathalie to girl scouts together just in case the mechanic calls. He doesn't, so we drive home again.

Once home, I check in on Samantha who is still sounding scratchy but is not fever-y. I gather up all the library books that are either overdue or nearly overdue. Rachel gets off the bus and the girls go out to take care of the animals as Sam gets the call from the mechanic. So we head off to pick up Nathalie from girl scouts and drop off the library books before heading to get the van.

I drive the van home. I first stop at the grocery store since we need few things. After, as I get on the highway the red battery light comes on and the battery gauge pegs out above the number 18. The mechanic is now closed and I have no cell phone, so I decide that I will just drive it home. I discover that if I let off the gas and coast the light goes off and the needle falls to normal. It also does it if I open and close the power windows. I get home and inform Sam who has the ladder and is trying to get the cat out of the tree. He manages to get the cat down which is quite dehydrated and hungry.

We eat dinner late. Rachel plays waitress while Samantha takes a bath before going to bed. Abby reads them their story while I try to get some laundry done. I think I fell asleep on the couch around 9PM.

Today we will probably do "nothing" all day again since the van must go back to the mechanic and Samantha has girl scouts.
