Summer Planning

I like order.
I like having a plan.
I often make plans and then have them dumped upside-down by circumstances, but at least I have the satisfaction that I, at one time, had a plan.

Our summer plans at this point:

At some point in June, Sam and I will travel to Maine to pick up our new herdsire for the goats. We may make a long weekend of it, or simply a really long round trip.

June 22nd we will be attending the Southern Vermont Dairy Goat show!

At the beginning of July, my sisters from Kansas will be visiting! It has been a long time since we have all been together, and we are really looking forward to it!

The middle of July is the North Stonington fair and the end of July is the New London County 4-H Fair.

It appears that our trip to Kansas is back on for the end of July! This is a trip for Sam, the three younger girls, and myself. The last time we took a family road trip to Kansas, Samantha was an infant and Hannah was only three years old. We decided that a family trip that they'll actually remember is needed!

August 17th is our Campfire Party. We're doing it up big this year as also a "sending off" party for Nathalie as she'll be heading to college in South Carolina the following week.

Another road trip to drive Nat to Bob Jones University will complete our Summer vacation.

We are looking forward to an awesome summer, "Lord willin' and the crick don' rise!"

Summer Vacation!!!

Today is the last day of Public school! YAY! Time to switch over to the Summer routines. I use the MOTH (Managers Of Their Homes) method of scheduling our household. I use it rather loosely because I have found with Sam's schedule being so erratic, I was constantly having his plans bump up against mine.

We have a lot planned this summer! For the month of June we have:
CPR training
Baby Shower for my sister-in-law
Clover Camp for Samantha
4H Camp for the other 4 girls
Painting and rearranging of bedrooms
Refinishing the floor in what will be the Master Bedroom

July has:
3 Cousins arriving for Camp Smith
Finishing the second bathroom renovations
North Stonington Fair
Sleepovers at Meme's
4H Fair
Sam's Trip to Kentucky to pick up a new goat
Maybe the CT ADGA goat show in Tolland

August has:
Chester Fair
Lebanon Fair
Harvesting Honey
Annual "Campfire Under the Stars" party

And we will "do school" every day for an hour or two, work on projects (baking, sewing, painting, drawing, etc.) for the various fairs, swim at the lake, go letterboxing, gardening, biking, visits to the library, build forts in the woods, trips to Grandma's, trips to Meme's, trips to local museums, carload night at the Drive-In...

I love summer!

GOOD NEWS

No phone call yet from our 4H'er! Yes, it is only 6AM....

On the GOOD news end of things: Sam has a job interview at Tractor Supply in Griswold tomorrow! We really need this job! There has been precious little wiggle room in our budget this past month. We have always taught our kids that God will provide us with what we need. We have very much learned what a generous God we have these past few months. Not only have we had our needs met, even some of our wants have been granted!

This week is the last official week for the homeschooled kids! We will continue to do Math and English through the summer. The girls are starting to work on their 4H Fair projects so in reality they are still being educated; just in the non-traditional subjects. All three are doing sewing projects; Nathalie is knitting; Hannah is working on some pastel and watercolor art; Abby is also working on watercolor artwork; Nathalie has been baking as she tries to perfect her recipes (not such a good thing for my waistline!).

The summer is shaping up to be a lot of fun! We have a field trip to the zoo planned for the end of the month and the girl cousins from Kansas and New Hampshire will be here for the second week in July. 4H Camp starts the last week in June and our first fair is the middle of July. We have to start summer vacation in May so that we can fit it all in!
